McDonald's Social Accountability Audit

McDonald's is a household name throughout the world. Every manufacturer desires the opportunity to join in the success and recognition that this corporation has achieved. McDonald's takes its social responsibility to the consumer very seriously. To prove this dedication, McDonald's created a Code of Conduct for Suppliers that all suppliers of McDonald's must adhere to. To ensure that suppliers are following the Code to the letter, McDonald’s mandates an audit via a third party.

Manitowoc Walk-In Division was audited to the Code of Conduct by Bureau Veritas on October 15, 2009. The audit was approximately seven hours in length. The auditor spent approximately two and a half hours doing interviews with employees selected at random. The remainder of his time was spent reviewing policies and inspecting the facility. The areas that he reviewed were Applicable Laws & Standards, Forced Labor, Young Employees, Compensation & Benefits, Working Hours, Discrimination/Harassment Practices, Workplace Health & Safety, Environment, Sourcing Practices, and Management Systems.

The audit was a success! There were no findings of non-compliance within the facility. Kolpak was rated as “low risk” which is the best available rating. The audit proved to McDonald’s that Manitowoc Walk-In Division agrees with McDonald's when they state, “that all employees deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.”
