California approves original SNAP rules

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) on March 23rd adopted the EPA’s proposed SNAP rules to reduce emissions of HFC refrigerants despite the US Court of Appeal declaring them illegal.

Due to this change Kolpak will not provide R404A systems to California or any other state which enacts these same rules. It is suspected that others will follow California’s example.

Kolpak’s standard product is one using R448A which meets all the requirements of the EPA SNAP original ruling that the Court of Appeal vacated. We believe that this is the best solution for our customers to promote a more acceptable and efficient design for the future.
